EA Announces a Need for Speed Reboot

According to a press release from EA today, Need for Speed will be returning to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in the fall of 2015 with its series reboot simply titled, Need for Speed.

The full reboot is being handled by EA-owned studio, Ghost Games and will feature a renewed emphasis on customization, open world driving, and an authentic urban car culture brought about through partnering with EA’s very own car community SpeedHunters.

Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. “Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

The teaser trailer features a high speed chase with the police. Fans of the series have been pleading for the deep customization that was available in Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2, and — judging from the teaser — it looks like this title will deliver on that while also adding elements from the Hot Pursuit series as well.

EA is set to reveal the full trailer at their E3 press conference on June 15th.
