Ubisoft Announces Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

In a post on the official Assassin’s Creed Facebook Page this morning, Ubisoft revealed box art for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, teasing the release of more information on Monday, March 4th. The post has since been removed, but we’ve got screenshots below.

The title and artwork for Black Flag agree with rumors from a reddit post early in February and a promotional retail poster leaked to Kotaku this week. Additional leaked information about the game suggests that players will take control of Edward Kenway, grandfather of the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed III, and that the bulk of the game will take place in the pirate-infested waters of the Caribbean in the early 1700’s.

This reveal seems strikingly similar to the official unveiling of Assassin’s Creed III in 2012, when, based on pressure from retail leaks, Ubisoft showed off the box art for the game before they intended to with promise of more information to come. It’s unclear why the images were posted and then shortly removed, but with the secret out, fans are reposting the box art themselves and inundating the Assassin’s Creed Facebook Page with questions. GIZORAMA has reached out to Ubisoft for comment on why the images were removed and will update this story with their response.

UPDATE: Ubisoft has now revealed official box art on many of their official Assassin’s Creed III channels from various regions, as well as on the official Ubisoft Page, but the information still has not returned to the main Assassin’s Creed Facebook Page where it was initially published. We’re still not sure why it was ever removed in the first place if this was a planned release. Stay tuned to GIZORAMA throughout the day as we learn more about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
