Nerds worldwide can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The development on Blizzard’s Diablo III seems to finally be winding down and gamers can expect to see a release by the spring of this year. After pushing back the release of the iconic hack and slash title, Blizzard seems confident at last that this action-RPG will be returning to the PC in the second quarter of 2012.
Blizzard president Mike Morhaime indicated that specifics on the release date will be revealed in the next few weeks.
It was also revealed during an Activision Blizzard conference call discussing company earnings for Q4 2011 that in addition to Diablo III, we can expect at least one or more titles in the 2012 fiscal year. It is likely we will see a Starcraft II expansion pack before Christmas this year, but this announcement leaves open the chance that Blizzard might launch the WoW Expansion Mists of Pandaria as well. Why such a rush for a new product in the Warcraft universe? Recent financial statements have shown that World of Warcraft has incrementally lost subscribers over the last two quarters. A new expansion inevitably means more resubscriptions which will bolster confidence that the aging MMO title isn’t waning in popularity.
