The internet has been buzzing with rumors of big announcement regarding the successor to the PS4 at one of the major gaming conventions in the coming months. Rumors of a surprise reveal at E3, GDC, PAX, and the TGS have all been repeated over and over again in forums and on enthusiast press sites. Sony, however, seems to want to temper fans expectations for any big news in 2012.
In an interview with IGN, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton claimed that any announcements regarding the PS4 would be “a distraction.” Citing the launch of the Vita, Tretton went on to say that announcing a new console would take away from the attention that Sony’s new handheld deserves.
Of course, if you read between the lines it is obvious that the PS4 is far enough along in development that if executives wanted to talk about the new system, it would be possible. Perhaps a big reveal is around the corner once the fervor surrounding the Vita has died down.
