Capcom shocked the fighting game community today when it announced that the upcoming Vita release of Street Fighter X Tekken would have a staggering 12 exclusive characters. While the PS3 has managed to lock in a few exclusive characters of their own in the form of Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Infamous’s Cole, it seems that the handheld has won the war.
Unlike the PS3 version, however, all of the exclusive characters will hail from one of the two titular fighting game series. In surprising move, many of them are series mainstays like Street Fighter‘s Blanka and Sakura and Tekken’s Bryan and Lei. It does mark the first next gen appearance of Street Fighter 3‘s Elena, which should make Third Strike fans. Here’s a complete rundown of the Vita exclusive characters.
The Vita release does not have a solid date yet, but it will be several months after the console launch. It seems unlikely that Capcom would develop a dozen fully fleshed out characters and then never let them see the light of day on the systems which will see the most use from their primary fan base. Speculators are currently theorizing that the 12 Vita exclusive characters will be introduced to the PS3 and 360 as DLC packs sometime after the Vita launch.
