I’m a huge Adventure Time fan, but I loathed the cartoon’s last foray into virtual space, the repetitive, creatively bankrupt flash-port Finn and Jake’s Epic Quest. Still, I’m all for Adventure Time games that are given the time and respect that the show is given, and Wayforward have had a fairly successful tenure with the series, having previously helmed Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?! and Explore The Dungeon Because I Don’t Know! Their latest effort, Adventure Time: Secret Of The Nameless Kingdom, is presented in a similar top-down, retro style to Hey Ice King!, which suits the series far better than the bloated Simpsons Hit and Run-esque 3-D of Epic Quest.
The game’s new trailer features the voices of Pendelton Ward, Jeremy Shada and John DiMaggio, and the game will also star series mainstays Hynden Walch, Tom Kenny, Niki Yang, Olivia Olson and Justin Roiland. It’s always nice to have a show’s cast on board for a project like this, particularly when comedy should make up a decent part of the game. I guess it’s a good day for great TV casts appearing in video game adaptations.
In Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom, players take on the personas of both Finn and Jake as they navigate through the eponymous kingdom – a mysterious unexplored region in the Land of Ooo. They will discover hidden secrets by exploring all corners of a new kingdom created exclusively for the game and encounters with never-seen-before characters and creatures.
The game is slated for a November 2014 release on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS.
