You know how hectic online matches can get with just 20 people alone? Now imaging facing off against 1,158 other players, all vying for blood. That’s what Sony Entertainment got to experience with their free-to-play MMOFPS Planetside 2, earning them the Guiness World Record for “Most Players Online in a Single FPS Battle.”
The massive war was orchestrated by Sony Online Entertainment and PlanetSideBattles, and occurred on January 24, 2015. The war, taking place between all three Planetside 2 factions, hosted 1,158 different players all at the same time on one of the game’s competitive servers.
“We’re thrilled to have officially taken it back with PlanetSide 2,” Planetside 2 producer David Carey said. “It’s truly the players that define the game and we’d like to extend a BIG congratulations to our players for reaching such an accomplishment nearly every night.”
You can play Planetside 2 on PC now for free, while PlayStation 4 owners must wait as the game endures a closed beta test.
