Sony Online Entertainment announces they’ve been acquired by investment firm Columbus Nova, and will continue as Daybreak Game Company.

Today Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced they have been acquired by investment firm Columbus Nova, and will be rebranded as new independent studio, Daybreak Game Company LLC (Daybreak).

While under the SOE brand, this team was responsible for bringing us EverQuest, PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online, and their recent survival-RPG H1Z1.

“We are excited to join Columbus Nova’s impressive roster of companies. They have a proven track record in similar and related industries and we are eager to move forward to see how we can push the boundaries of online gaming,” said John Smedley, President, Daybreak Game Company. “We will continue to focus on delivering exceptional games to players around the world, as well as bringing our portfolio to new platforms, fully embracing the multi-platform world in which we all live.”

And yes, “multi-platform” does mean current consoles as Smedley today mentioned the following on Twitter:

We look forward to seeing what Daybreak can bring us while they venture out as their own. What do you think?
