Miitomo Now Available For Smart Devices

Get info on Nintendo’s first app and new social network, Miitomo!

Announced last month, Nintendo’s new and quirky social networking service for both iOS and Android devices, Miitomo, is now live. Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said in a statement, “With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices. Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience.”

After starting the app, users are given the option to register with My Nintendo, the new digital reward service and Club Nintendo’s successor. After registering, users can create their Mii via their camera, a QR code, import their Mii from their 3DS/Wii U, or simply create a new Mii altogether. Users then give their Mii a voice and are assigned a personality based on positions on a graph, extremely similar to Nintendo’s 3DS game Tomodachi Life.

Next up is adding friends, which is done either face-to-face or by linking a Facebook and Twitter account. Once you do that, it’s a matter of answering questions and earning coins that are used to buy clothes and items in the shop. Questions are the life of Miitomo. “Part of the fun is discovering unexpected facts about your friends,” the company said.

When it launched in Japan, the app received more than 1 million downloads in its first three days of availability, and was the most downloaded free app in both the App Store and Google Play storefronts. Below are some screenshots of my own Miitomo experience.
