Doomfist Revealed as Newest Overwatch Playable Character

The long running Overwatch mystery that was Doomfist has finally come to an end. Earlier this week, Blizzard began heavily teasing the new character when they updated the lore about a man getting broke out of Numbani prison. Fans became excited sensing that Doomfist as a playable character was on the way.

Here we are just a few days later and Doomfist has been officially revealed. He is a highly mobile, offensive character that attacks mainly with the gauntlet on his arm. His full bio listed on Overwatch’s website cites 6 different abilities. Doomfist appears to primarily be a close range character with moves rising uppercut, rocket punch, and seismic slam all dealing damage at short range. He will be able to deal some long-range damage with his hand cannon ability as well. His passive skill, The Best Defense…, grants a shield when deals ability damage. Lastly, Doomfist’s ultimate ability is called Meteor Strike and as described by Blizzard, “Doomfist leaps into the sky, then crashes to the ground, dealing significant damage.”

The new character is playable now to PC players on Overwatch’s Public Test Realm. This area is not accessible to PS4 or XB1 players, so they will have to wait until he is fully released to get their hands on him. There is currently no date set for when Doomfist will make his way into the full game.

One thing lacking from this character reveal was actor Terry Cruz. Fans have been hoping to get the actor to voice the character and Cruz himself was on board with the idea. He even went as far to create a Doomfist audition video. Sadly, Blizzard confirmed he is not the voice of Doomfist.

For more information the character, you can check out Blizzard’s character bio page. Also, there are two videos: one diving further into the lore behind Doomfist & another showing off the characters abilities. Both are available on the PlayOverwatch YouTube page.
