Mass Effect Andromeda Receives Free Trial

If an announcement of the series going on hiatus and numerous early sales aren’t enough, EA and Bioware are now offering a free trial for Mass Effect Andromeda.

In a post on the official Mass Effect website, players can now download and play the first ten hours of the newest Mass Effect game.  The free trial is available across all platforms, and will be available until November 1st, 2017.

Andromeda’s free trial is available across all platforms.

The content available for players during the trial period includes all multiplayer modes, along with the first planet of the single player campaign, Eos.  The format for this trial is similar to what EA offers in their Early Access games for Xbox users, where players have access to a smaller portion of the game before it’s officially released.  Anyone who decides to purchase the full game after their trial has ended will be able to carry over all of their progress between both modes.

Since its launch this past March, Mass Effect Andromeda has been received with mixed reviews.  While many say that the game isn’t necessarily terrible, it didn’t meet the standard that people have come to expect from previous Mass Effect games.  On top of that, animation and technical mishaps were reported on the game just weeks before it launched.

Those who decide to purchase the full game will have all of their trial progress carried over.

Though there were plans to continue working on new Mass Effect games, Andromeda’s shaky launch has caused plans for the series to change. In a report from Kotaku back in May, the Mass Effect series has been placed on an indefinite hiatus, with most developers from Bioware Montreal being moved around to work on other projects, such as the recently announced Anthem set to release next year.  Those who are left to work on Mass Effect Andromeda are there primarily to work on regular patch updates and new multiplayer content.
