New Overwatch Map on the Way – Blizzard Announce Gamescom 2017 Plans

Gamescom 2017 is fast approaching and one of the big hitters have just announced their plans for the event hosted in Cologne next week. From August 22nd-26th Blizzard Entertainment will be showcasing some of the newest content for their much loved games.

Countless hours have been poured into the world of Overwatch over the last year, and fans will be anticipating the release of any new content. Well, Overwatch fans are in luck as Blizzard plan to unveil a brand new map and animated short at Gamescom.  Fans will be able to see the new map in a preview released on Monday before the event takes place. Players at the event will then get the chance to play the map for themselves.

The rumourmill is already turning on what the new map could possibly be, the leading theory is that the new map will take place in Roadhog and Junkrat’s home of Junkertown. Reddit users pointed out earlier this week that a new voiceline had been datamined welcoming players to Junkertown. From what we know, Junkertown is a Mad Max style scrapyard in the outback of Australia, where mech battles take place. If Junkrat and Roadhog are anything to go by, it’s not exactly the sanest place in the world of Overwatch. Expect to see a pretty crazy map if Junkertown is indeed revealed next week.

It might be time we found out what this ‘treasure’ Junkrat keeps talking about is

Blizzard’s animated shorts for Overwatch have been a fan favourite since Winston and Tracer fought Widowmaker and Winston in that museum, way back when Overwatch was first announced. Since then we’ve seen shorts focusing on Widowmaker, Hanzo and Genji, Sombra, Bastion and Soldier 76. Who could possibly be next on the list? Fans think that if Junkertown is the next map, it might just be in the next short, so we might see Junkrat and Roadhog in full animated glory.  On the other hand, leaks have suggested a Mei short has been in the works for a while now. Whatever hero we see, lore fanatics out there are in store for a whole lot more Overwatch history.

Fans of Blizzard’s other games are also in for a treat, as they get to see the latest from Hearthstone, Starcraft, Diablo3,Heroes of the Storm, and World of Warcraft. A glimpse of Heroes of the Storm’s latest hero will be in the Monday preview video, and players at the event will be able to get to play as that hero.  The latest updates for Starcraft, World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 will all be available to play, and Hearthstone fans will even get a nice frozen treat to celebrate the release of the latest expansion Knights of the Frozen Throne.

Whatever Blizzard game you’re a fan of, keep an eye out for all the latest this coming week.
